International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend

The International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend, ILLW, which came into being in 1998 as the Scottish Northern Lights Award run by the Ayr Amateur Radio Group usually takes place on the 3rd full weekend in August each year and attracts over up to 500 lighthouse entries located in over 40 countries. It is one of the most popular international amateur radio events in existence probably because there are very few rules and it is not the usual contest type event.

Amateur Radio Fun in the Colorado Mountains

Amateur Radio Fun in the Colorado Mountains

Amateur Radio operators from around Colorado will be climbing Colorado Summits On The Air (SOTA) peaks and communicating with other radio amateurs across the state and around the world. Join in on the fun during the annual event by activating a summit or contacting (chasing) the mountaintop stations. Be aware that many mountaintop activators will hit the trail early with the goal of being off the summits by (1800 UTC) noon due to lightning safety concerns.

This event is normally held the first full weekend in August. Again this year, we will add two bonus days to the Colorado 14er Event. The main two days remain Saturday and Sunday (5-6 August), while the bonus days are Friday 4th August 2023 and Monday 7th August 2023, for those SOTA enthusiasts that need more than two days of SOTA fun!
