RSGB's 'Get on the Air to Care' Construction Competition Winners

The RSGB’s Get on the air to care construction competition was for projects made during the Autumn 2020 lockdown, the Christmas and New Year holiday period or the early 2021 lockdown.

The Society was delighted to receive 27 entries from 15 entrants and the standard was very high. To reflect this, the judges awarded four prizes rather than choose one winner as originally planned.

The RSGB thanked everyone who entered and congratulates each of the four winners:

  • Gordon Lean, G3WJG (1st prize of £125)

  • Paul Graham, M0PGX (Runner up prize of £75)

  • Laurence Fletcher, G4SXH (3rd prize of £50)

  • Robert Lynch, M0NVQ (Highly commended and receives the RSGB Handbook)

IRTS Awards Nominations

The Irish Radio Transmitters Society Awards Committee is seeking nominations for “Awards for Services to the Society or to Amateur Radio” and for “Awards to IRTS Members for other achievements”.

The winners in the above categories would normally be presented with their inscribed trophy/shield in person at the AGM. However, due to the Corona-19 virus pandemic, the trophies/shields will be inscribed but will not be distributed to the winners except where a winner specifically requests delivery of same.

It is important that our fellow experimenters and operators whose work and effort on behalf of each one of us and for the Society be recognised and rewarded. Please send your nominations for specific awards to the Awards Manager to - holohaj2@hotmail.com

2019 Single-Operator Cass Award - Janusz Wegrzyn (SP9FIH)

Janusz Wegrzyn, SP9FIH, has won the 2019 Single-Operator Cass Award. Sponsored by Club Log, DXLab, and the Northern California DX Club, the Cass Awards encourage DXpedition operating excellence by recognizing DXpeditions that work the most unique call signs. This marks Wegrzyn’s third year as the Single-Operator Cass Award winner. As E44WE, he is credited with working 7,518 unique stations during a 14-day DXpedition to Palestine.

The unlimited Cass Award went to the 5K0K team of Petr Bohacek, OK1BOA; Petr Spacil, OK1FCJ; Pavol Halek, OK1CRM; Pavel Novak, OK1GK; Rudolf Sedlak, OK2ZA; Ludek Odehnal, OK2ZC; Karel Odehnal, OK2ZI; David Beran, OK6DJ, and Rob Rey, HK3CW. In 2019, they worked 20,744 unique stations from San Andrés, setting a new record for the Unlimited Cass Award.

Presented annually, the Cass Awards encourage DXpeditions to maximize the number of DXers worked. Award sponsors say that the annual awards “honor the wisdom and spirit of Cass Cassidy, WA6AUD (SK), whose stories in the West Coast DX Bulletin taught a generation of DXers that DX IS!”
