The Yasme Foundation has announced the latest recipients of the Yasme Excellence Award. They are Brett Ruiz, PJ2BR, and Helena Ruiz, PJ2ZZ; Bob Wilson, N6TV; Jari Perkiömäki, OH6BG, and Jim Brown, K9YC. This may be technical, operating, or organizational achievement.

Brett and Helena Ruiz have been active leaders of the VERONA Radio Club, Curaçao’s International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) member-society, for more than 20 years. Their participation has included technical activities, disaster preparedness and relief, and training of potential radio amateurs. They serve as liaisons to government and international organizations, and contribute to important events, such as the Global Amateur Radio Emergency Communications Conference (GAREC) and IARU conferences and meetings. Brett Ruiz is also active in long-distance VHF propagation and digital communication.

George Thomas W5JDX - Homebrew Hero 2020

The newest recipient of the Homebrew Heroes Award is the host of the first video amateur radio podcast, AmateurLogic.tv, and host of the video podcast Ham Nation’s wildly popular segment, Smoke & Solder. The Hero for 2020 is George Thomas W5JDX of Ridgeland, MS USA.

This came from out of the blue. I’m very humbled to receive the second Homebrew Hero Award this year. This is especially so since I’m following Hans Summers G0UPL, a great homebrew designer and proprietor of QRP-Labs.com. I’ll certainly try to live up to the honor. My plans will evolve over the year as to what projects I’ll undertake. I already have some ideas. But you can see them through AmateurLogic.tv and Smoke & Solder on Ham Nation and, of course, the Homebrew Heroes website. I want to give thanks to all of the sponsors who are donating prizes to enhance my workbench and the folks involved with the Homebrew Heroes Award Program as well as the ICQ Podcast.
